Verdict: A classic Brit-pop release from a band that helped create the genre.

Overview: The overtly sexual and always provocative Different Class is Pulp’s magnum-opus. Flamboyant, passionate vocals adorn aggressive Brit-pop arrangements where biting guitars meet spastic, repetitive drums over a backdrop of bass and strings. Jarvis Cocker’s lyrics really give this album another dimension; each track representing stories of intriguing, dark, and sexual characters engrossed in typical, everyday British life. The lyrics get so evocative that you feel as if you are peeking through the home windows of suburban London. Above all, Different Class is loaded with charm. You can’t help but get these tracks stuck in your head. It’s Pulp’s variety in their songwriting that gives this charm, but it’s their mastery of their craft that makes these songs good enough to keep coming back to.
