  1. I like how he can teach something about the guitar so fluently without actually having to play a single note

  2. Excellent advice. I only realized this philosophy recently and I wish I would have realized it a decade earlier. Right on.

  3. what he just described in the complete opposite method of how shawn lane described himself increasing his speed. ill take lane's word on this one

  4. search "shawn lane developing speed" or whatever. there's a nice video if him doing a clinic. he basically explains that he has always been playing fast but at first it was sloppy. the got his playing became clean through repetition. Govan is obviously good but he shouldnt speak on how others should approach an instrument, only how he has gotten where he is.

  5. This is why I think Guthrie is one of the best guitar teachers ever to grace the earth. He approaches guitar teaching in an almost philosophical type of way and makes you think about yourself as a guitar player and as a person. He understands that being a musician is a VERY personal thing and that we are all different as musicians and as people.

  6. We have now added & amended new links to the Guthrie Govan Webcast & Guthrie Govan Lessons available on our website – find them but clicking the 'Show More' tab in the description. All the best Licklibrary!

  7. This is correct but I wouldn't throw out GG's advice because what he is saying is the most common approach to developing speed. However, Shawn Lane method make sense too, at least it worked for him. You just play on much higher speeds but sloppy, then when you return to your manageable speed your playing skill skyrockets. After a point you will be able to "clean" that sloppiness even in extreme speeds.

  8. I'd say both are rather healthy tips – I think Lane has a point about mental-blockage… I recall playing a certain fast lick, and upon gradual speed increase, my picking technique naturally changed. So in order to get my picking hand under control, I was forced to jump to higher, uncomfortable speed, and correct my sloppiness.

  9. best advice, this guy is telling the truth there are no speed shortcuts..

  10. If Jesus returned to earth as a guitar instructor / rock god (wouldn't that be both kool and ironic), how would he be any different from Guthrie?

  11. it's a "jesus" of arpegios… love through waves… do it when your ready :P

  12. Love the precision these Brits have with the english language….

  13. sir your words cool down myself i tried so hard to play paul gilburt technical difficulties cant getting that speed of playing tried my best too hard ,, it was so frustrating ,, now i am chill out .. thnks a lot

  14. Yeah, I should have watched this twenty years ago! But thanks anyway.

  15. Slowing it down and working out the technical problem… e.g.  Making an exercise out of it.
